I Remember

I remember
the boy
with the curly, pale blonde hair that gleamed in the sunlight
when we played basketball together.
He always came to camp,
smelling like paint,
and a new house.
And I can’t forget
the way
his pretty, bright blue eyes rolled
whenever we spoke
And made eye contact.
He claimed to be a vegetarian
Although he loved bacon-the only meat he’d eat.

I remember
the girl
with the wild red hair
and the spray of freckles across her face.
How she only had six toes-
Four on the left and two on the right.
Yet I felt no pity or sadness
Because she could still walk
And she even got to drive a motorized chair,
that had a funny sounding horn.

I remember
the boy
with the sandy floppy hair,
tanned skin,
and crazy eyes.
Always full of energy and humor.
He always had a goofy smile on his face.
I could never remember his name
Just the crazy big goofy smile,
that reminded me of a puppy dog.

I remember
the girl
with the long and straight dark hair
And the rectangular black glasses she wore
that instantly made me think
chic
or hip.
How she always wore black
and even convinced us she could read minds.
Though I think
It was just because
We thought of the same thing
Almost every single time.

I remember
the boy
with the brown hair
And the one eye that was almost completely devoid of color,
a greyish white.
I could never remember the other eye color.
We always played cards together,
with his special cards,
that had braille on the sides.

I remember
the girl
with short braided hair.
Her craziness
and  love for horses,
We were practically inseparable,
and some got us confused,
though we looked nothing alike.

I remember
all these people,
because they were the highlight of my summers.
The friends I made
and lost contact with,
Yet somehow
I could never forget.
I remember them all,
But I can’t remember what I ate for dinner last night.
