Early one morn I went walking-
I went walking quite early one day.
In the park by the brook,
I just chanced a look,
And saw a man-
His clothes torn and frayed.
In his frail arms was a child-
A child who looked cold and grey.
And with tears in his eyes this man begged me-
He begged me to help in some way.
He said that his child was dying-
But a doctor he could not pay.
Startled I stood there just watching-
Just watching this man beg and pray.
But before I could stop my young feet,
I found myself running-
Running, just running-
Running and running-
Away.
Away from the man with the child,
Away from the park by the brook,
Away from the place where my heart-
Had stopped after one brief look.
When I stopped I was back in my kitchen-
Back in my very own house;
But I felt as if there was a lion,
And I was the cowering mouse.
--------------------------------------
But then I knew that I was dreaming-
For the things I saw started to change.
And in place of the dusty grey sky,
A place bursting with sunshine took shape.
Then I realized that I was in Heaven-
Oh, glorious, glorious place!
But I halted as soon as I saw-
That oh so familiar face.
Oh, what a start-
When with my beating heart,
I stumbled upon the truth.
Oh, what a sight-
As garbed all in white,
Was that man’s cold grey faced young youth.
I couldn’t believe my eyes,
I stood there-
Paralyzed.
I wanted to run,
I wanted to hide-
And yet I stood there-
Paralyzed.

Well this young child approached me,
With tears in their eyes,
And spoke but one word-
“Why?”

‘Twas then I awoke,
With that word the child spoke,
Echoing in my mind.
“Why?”
I then looked at my clock,
Which read four o’clock,
On the table next to my bedside.
--------------------------------
And early that morn I went walking,
I went walking quite early that day.
In the park by the brook,
I just chanced a look,
And saw the man-
His clothes torn and frayed.
In his frail arms was the child-
The child who was cold and grey.
And with tears in his eyes this man begged me,
He begged me to help in some way.
He said that his child was dying,
But a doctor for he could not pay.
And I smiled, for right then I knew-
What exactly I’d been sent here to do.

Our world is a wondrous place.  However, it is by no means perfect.  In fact, there are many things that people simply should not have to go through, and yet do so every day.  There is pain, loss, and suffering that we cannot even hope to comprehend.  But how many of these things are we able to change?  How many times do we simply pass by those who are desperately in need of our help?  It was when pondering this that I was inspired to write “The Vision”, my own original composition.  As you read, I would encourage you to think of what you can do to make our world just a little more wonderful.
