Six Days
"Our flight was cancelled."
It was a Saturday morning
and those were the words I only remember.
From the resort,
to the three hours line at the airport.
Parents yelling at impatient children.
All were trying to get home.
"The next flight will be in six days."
Not going to accept that answer,
my parents, older sister, and I got to work.
Looking up flights,
calling airlines.
We needed to get home.
Hours passed, I woke.
One airline finally finding us a flight.
Three different planes,
many different calls.
Almost late to the first we ran,
through security and crowds.
Making it, barely.
Heavy breathing, legs tired, arms cramping.
Saint Thomas to Miami to Orlando to Philadelphia.
We made it home.
