the nepenthe
you were that 2 a.m. feeling, on a Tuesday, in the middle of summer,
laying in your overgrown garden,
staring up at the inky blue expanse above us,
we counted the stars, laughed with the moon, laid unmoving,
our soft breath intermixing with the delicate wildflowers surrounding us,
then you turned to me and asked,
“If I’m lost, then how can I find myself?”
and I stared at you, staring at the sky,
your eyes filled with wonder for the universe,
the very picture of wonder and amazement yourself,
and i’d whisper,
“Forget yourself and start a new in the stars”
you closed your eyes, the softest of smiles settling on your face,
and quietly rasped out,
“okay.”
