Remember Us
Remember when you raided our homes,
took our children, split us apart?
Remember when you burned our loved ones,
beat us until we were broken?
We remember.
How could we ever forget
the cries of death
filling the air of an eternal nightmare?
How could we ever forget
the lies you told us,
only so that we'd work our ways to darkness,
not freedom?
Why would we ever forget?
You stripped us from our lives, our every bits of happiness
and fed our souls to hell.
You turned our dreams to ashes,
murdered our God.
The next time you see smoke,
you'll see our faces and hear our voices:
We remember you.
Do you remember us?

Reading Elie Wiesel's memoir, Night, in English class, inspired me to write this poem.
