Wires
I never saw the “Fürher,” but they all told me about him,
How he reformed our country for the better.
But what about me?
They told me I was a pest by nature
And I could not do anything to change it.
I was meant to serve, and nothing more.
No better than a rat.
So they put me and the rest of us into the big wire cage.
And we cannot touch the wires because they hurt
With their barbs and power.
Josephine touched the wire and it burnt her hand.
And then they shot her,
Just like they did to Mama.
And they told Papa that she was not meant to live.
She was the rat caught in the trap.
The wire trap.
So we do not touch the wire.
