Peals of laughter from all around
Leaves crunch under their feet –
Red, orange, yellow mixing together.
The wind whispers into their ears, sending chills down their spines,
But it doesn’t matter to them.
All they really need
Is each other.

White is here, there, everywhere.
They pull out their hats, mittens, and scarves
And venture out into the cold
To build a snowman. Together.
Giggles all around as soft snowflakes
Land on their noses.
Nothing is more important than the perfect mug of hot cocoa.

Soon they find themselves
Watching the last of the ice melt away.
The birds sing, flowers bloom.
The grass is a glowing green
They know the time has come
For  them to join forces
In the warm weather.

The air grows humid and hot –
Sweat drips down their foreheads.
Running through the sprinklers,
Splashing in pools,
Two months until they return to school
What could be better than licking frosty ice cream,
After a day of soaking in the sun?

It’s been a long day.
Strolling through the neighborhood, I look around the playground,
They’re laughing, playing,
Without a care in the world.
What wouldn’t I give,
To be young again

This is a reflective piece, just taking a look back at the relaxation of childhood and reminiscing about those days.
