Humanity.
What is humanity?
We are the people who throw away whole plates of uneaten food
without a second thought.
We are the people who use a plastic bag once and throw it away.
We are the people who preach egalitarianism,
yet still have strong unconscious biases.
We are the people who judge overweight people,
yet 68.8% of the U.S. population is overweight.
We are the people who complain about gender inequality,
yet the mass media consistently portrays women as submissive to men,
their toys and pleasure givers.
We are one of the most advanced countries in the world,
yet 6th graders in Hong Kong are learning Algebra,
while 9th graders in the U.S. struggle to solve an algebraic equation.
We are the people who talk the talk
but don’t walk the walk.
When we will start taking accountability for our actions?
We should be the people who take only as much as we can eat,
We should be the people who reuse plastic bags,
the people who preach and practice egalitarianism,
the people who are taught healthy eating habits and workout routines.
We should be the people who portray women as independent from men,
the people who challenge students in school,
and people who realize that the first step to a solution is to acknowledge that there is a problem.
