Poetry is Hard
A poem to write,
yet nothing to say.
An assignment that’s due,
with no topic in sight.
So what do I write about?
Should it be something
funny and sarcastic?
Or should it be
more lyrical and sad?
Do I deliver a message
about something people
can relate to, like high school?
Or should I pursue
the challenging topic of
“life’s j o u r n e y”?
Pause.
My teacher specifically
told us to stay away from that.
Is no one else struggling?
I hear keys typing
furiously
all around me.
The printer whirs.
Are people already done?
This lack of creativity
is holding me back
like a giant roadblock
in my brain.
Hey, maybe I can write about that!
Or maybe I already have.
I guess poetry isn’t as hard as I thought.
