Always Waiting
Finally, the day arrives,
the day I have been waiting months
and months for. The day you’ve come back.
I stand not-so-patiently, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, waiting
for that “I’ve missed you so much”
embrace.
But when I see you, nothing feels familiar.
You’ve changed.
I’ve changed.
We’ve changed.
I desperately attempt to bring us back to normality,
but there is nothing I can do.
I reach for his hand,
as he pulls away.
What’s done is done. You told people,
“we just drifted apart”.
We are in different places now,
and that's okay-
but I still look forward to that
“I’ve missed you so much”
embrace.
