Target, Keep Being You
Target, you are my happy place.
When I walk through your automatic doors,
entering the aroma of extra buttery popcorn,
I feel as if I have stepped off of a plane,
immersing myself into a vacation getaway.
My first destination is your dollar section:
a magical combination of bright, decorated pencils, floppy hats,
miniature cups, and tropical party lights.
You’re always prepared for the upcoming season or holiday.
I start grabbing, digging, throwing into my cart, and I can’t stop myself.
“It’s only a dollar,” quickly turns to twenty bucks down the drain.
Your clothes, Target, are always adorable and affordable.
WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME?
Patterned cardigans, trendy dresses, and cute yet comfortable tees;
you always draw me in and keep me for at least half an hour
in your perfect paradise of wondrous wardrobes.
Now, my cart seems full as is, but I haven’t made it to the office supplies
which happen to be in the same aisle as candles—
two of my favorite things and greatest weaknesses.
Of course you would do that to me.
As I make way out with a new sweet-smelling, coconut vanilla candle jar,
even more sharpie pens, and a delightfully designed journal,
I push my red cart with glee as I head towards home decor.
By the end of my time in this section, my future home is entirely planned out.
That gold cake platter...the coral soap dish...this beautiful picture frame…
I don’t need it now, but I sure will in the future!
Thanks, Target, for always giving me deranged reasons to spend money.
Your makeup aisles are like my own personal northern star.
The glistening glow illuminating from the rows lead me in and hold me tight..
The sales on mascara, the two for ten nail polish deal,
your newly stocked chapstick collection,
I always leave with a plentiful amount of products I don’t even need.
Oh, Target, you bring me so much joy,
even if you terrorize my bank account on a weekly basis.
When I exit your doors,
I feel fulfilled, satisfied, and rejuvenated
though I just spent half my paycheck on pointlessly valuable items.
You are inevitable, but full of so much love.
Thank you for all you do.
Target, keep being you.
