Vanquishing Ambiguity
It's easier to resolve conflicts through the buffer of a mirror.
Mirrors let people be physically close
but not have the proximity
that eye contact forces.
I look at you through a mirror because...
Unsaid mutual understandings pass between the two people-
issues settled and problems introduced.
But at the same time
I’m so confused.
Looking through a mirror displays an altered reality.
Things appear a certain way, every minuscule detail is subject to scrutiny,
but at a different angle, an afterthought glance,
beneath the fog
whose hazy moisture obscures my vision like pencil smudges on an important paper,
things are entirely different.
The day that I can discern clarity will be the day
I am not broken, shattered,
reflecting fractals of light and image in
misplaced directions.
These realities presented by the mirror are
inseparable.
Sorrow gives context to devotion.
Struggle amplifies truth.
Gradually there is no need for mirrors,
no need for emotional barriers,
no need for the glorified injustices to be unsaid anymore.
My own solace is knowing broken is not obsolete.
Mirrors only prolong the inevitable.
Conflicts must be resolved if there is to be any hope for growth.
I turn and look you in the eyes.
