Around the world I have traveled,
Time and time again I hear
The cries of the poor man who is
Living life day by day

Awake before the sun rises from east to west,
The poor rice farmer tredges in the heat of the sun,
Working until the moon appears from the shadows of clouds
Only to receive a day’s worth of food

Body covered in the soot of coal, ears hurting from dynamite,
The poor coal miner risks his life in an endless cave
Slamming his pickaxe into the earth
Only to receive a minuscule pay

Machines clanking, smoke rising
The poor factory worker suffers in a sweltering jungle
Dreaming of better conditions and a greater wage,
Only to earn a wage barely sufficient for one

At the end of the day when the sun sets,
The workers laugh rather than cry because
Despite the conditions that they work in,
Food is still on the table when they come home

This literature piece was influenced by the works of the renown poet Walt Whitman and his poetry style of describing the life of the common man. Just like Whitman, the use of repetition is used in this piece.
