A burden they are
Those people of yours
How heavy they are
I'm sure you must know
They always want something
It's always something hard
And if you aren't ready
Well, you never are

They all want to hear
Until they do
They won't care for your fears
So they can never truly care about you
But I do not deny
I too know
That in this forsaken world
We can never be alone

So strap on your smiles
But let clouds cover your eyes
It's best not to see
When you are going to hide
It won't be quite living
Maybe a bit more than just existing
But you won't die this way
Not from being Lonely anyway

I'm telling you this terrible truth
Because I want you to know
How to live in a world where People
Don't come as often as they go
I've seen it all myself
An experience I suppose one needs
People will prefer your lies
If it makes them happy

And don't trust those who say
"I want to know you
I want to see your heart
I want to know your feelings too"
They only say that
Until the words come out
And as the words leave their lips
Their supposed good intentions
Dry out

Make it easy on them
And simple for you
You'll see clearer
I guess
Of them
though maybe not you
It's a terrible truth
But you were going to have to learn
To keep the Lonely from lurking in
Our truer selves
Our precious souls
Must Burn.
