I Know I Am Selfish, But So Are You.
When I say sorry to you about things I don't regret,
or can't control,
I am not lying.
I am saying that I am sorry for making you unhappy
in the process of making myself happy.
I am sorry that I can not make you happy
by doing what makes me happy.
I’m sorry that I am put in a position
that makes me choose myself over you.
I wish I didn’t have to,
but that’s just the way it is.
You can’t tell me it was wrong,
because it was only wrong to you.
In that moment,
I was thinking about me.
I am entitled to my opinion,
and you are entitled to yours.
You can tell me how it makes you feel,
and I will listen.
I will try to find a better way to reconcile my happiness with yours,
but my actions are not wrong.
I am not wrong.
I should not be told that I am lesser because of it.
I know I am selfish, but so are you.
