Hollywood
I'm not the golden gateway, or the toll woman of Ellis Island
I don’t rally the brave, or create the free.
I'm steel
shining in the sunlight, plunked on a Californian hill
by serfs journeying for a new life,
greeted by black-and-white matinees,
trickling wages
Now I overlook the new kingdom
of dreams that casts a shadow
of spite
upon rich and poor alike
Now, I am an icon of possibility
I am the host of all the parties,
and the patron of stars
in Valentino, jewels by Tiffany
Now, I'm a Xanadu princess,
Come and see my riches
made of new royalty,
silver screens,
thrown dice.
I am an icon of yes.

I hope this displays a juxtaposition between Hollywood glamour and the grim lives it coexists with - from Chinese immigrants and Oklahoma rhollywood efugees, to Mexicans counting on a new life.
Hollywood projects a fantasy, but it's built on greed and injustice.
