Bench Blues
As I sit on this bench and observe
Nature and the world living free
From the frosted tip grass and leafless oaks
To the cool gentle breeze and snow in the air
Magnificent sound of the few birds still here
And the giant squirrel who has awaken months early
Half frozen puddles and icy car windows
People rushing out of the cold
Servings of hot chocolate and coffee at every store
Fuzzy boots, jackets, hats, and gloves
Finally through the grey clouds the sun shines
The temperature jumps from 20 to 30 degrees
You would think it’s spring already
But until then I embrace the cold
And enjoy the sights I see from this bench
