Haiti
Port-Au-Prince, Haiti
Pitied from the world,
Farmers, coffee grinders, merchants,
country of the hard-headed.
They tell me that you lack of security and I believe them, for I have heard the news of kidnappings and rapes of young children.
And they tell me that you are ungoverned and I answer: yes, it is true I have seen people go to political power just for their own personal benefits.
And they tell me that you are inhumane and my reply is: you’re well sourced, it has shown in the media, how the average Haitian worry about what they are going to eat or feed their families.
And after answering to the people giving my county a bad reputation, I reply back to them with them with pride:
come and show me another black populated country that was the first to gain its independence.
Even through of all our struggles we are still proud of our motherland Haiti, when you walk down the streets a sense of pride can be felt.
Miles and miles I have traveled the world but yet I have never found another country like it.
We have been standing strong with everything that had been thrown at us:
Dictatorship,
earthquake,
lack of government
Through the dust, you see a proud parent, smiling after all the hard work they went through for that moment of seeing their kids are graduating.
All the statistics thrown at us and yet you see educated Haitians, head held high knowing the future holds a better tomorrow.
Being pitied from the world is the result of well developed countries taking advantage of countries like Haiti, not because we can’t take care of ourselves.
We are farmers, coffee grinders, merchants, we are people who don’t give up giving the situation that we are in. We are a country of hard-headed people because they are the ones who are going to fight for a better tomorrow for my country Haiti.

My inspiration came from a poem called "chicago" by Carl Sandburg.
