Born to BE
Born in the land of the free,
born bound in the chains of a single story,
born with this pre-built identity-
to clean toilets, rape and live in poverty,
all this f***ing negativity,
it's hurting me,
everyone telling me who I will be,
molding me, painting and cutting away at me,
calling me monster, maid and anchor baby,
but I can see 20/20-
see them trying to bind me in their web of lies,
disgust, pity and blind ignorance clear in their eyes,
But why?
this is the USA
we shouldn’t turn mirrors gray
shoot people in the middle of the day
hate gays
send people away...
Is this the American way?
America the brave fears the unknown,
difference is a pretty picture but it isn’t shown,
but let THIS be known:
a label, a word, a single story shouldn’t define,
your future comes from your grind,
don’t let the media taint your mind,
for YOU are what YOU decide.
