Every 40 seconds someone wants to say goodbye
In about 13 minutes, a person will die
Not by accident, but by making the choice
They feel as though they’ve lost their voice
Nothing to say, but so much to think
Even the ones who smile and wear pink
That boy who has a clean face and pressed pants
Had his last hurrah at that school dance
The girl who loves to dance and laugh
Passed out in the ambulance, she’s not coming back
That stranger with their head stuck in a book
About 20 minutes ago, he convulsed and shook
That rosey-cheeked grin in the car
Took some pills, but went too far
That rebel who always shouts “F***”
This morning, jumped in front of a truck
By the time you’re done reading this,
Someone will have tried to cut their wrist
So next time you see a friend
Promise them you’re there till the end
Show your love and hold them close
Because you never know who might overdose
Make sure you look out for others
Even if you’re not the mother
Because in the end, what do you want to recall?
The safe friend or the 9-1-1 call?
