Looking back in retrospect,
I was in love.
Train rides, markets, the trips to the sea.
Endless fields of sunflowers and wheat with a perfect transition of a blue to yellow horizon.
And there were dance lessons with twirling skirts and stainless white flats.
Kids being kids on a playground that passed it's remodeling appointment years before I was born.
It was a time of blowing bubbles to the wind, and decorating my grandmother's hair with an array of clips and pins.
I was everything I wanted to be: a ballerina, a model, a hairstylist,
A kid.
I was in love with a time
With a place
So destroyed, misunderstood, broken.
I hope the bombs weren't too strong
And the hysteria too frightening.
I hope children
Will see the same sun
And others will reminisce in its warmth.

I grew up in a place that can not be recreated. Donetsk, Ukraine will forever fill my thoughts with happiness and I hope that the same childhood can be present once again for a child growing up in a place so confusing yet magical as Donetsk, a place that is currently encompassed in a civil war. I hope people remember the times of the past, and not forget the sun that never failed to shine.
