Where I'm From
I am from the lake with the light blue sky, from a Bennington and a swimsuit.
From the pale yellow home with a view as beautiful as the sunset.
I am from the elm tree towering the backyard, the flowers lining the front porch greeting guests, and the rock wall complementing the lakeside beauty.
From nights by the fire.
I am from the golfing at Westmoor and jubilant nights with family.
From Kent, Tina, Carly, and David.
I am from the workers and storytellers.
From “always be humble” and “live your life as if today was your last.”
I am from Him who gives me strength.
From “Richfield,” from my mother’s and my father’s family.
I am from Gouda cheese and Triscuits on Saturday summer mornings.
From tubing on the lake with friends and family,
the mornings at the overcrowded airport,
and the days enjoying golf with my dad.
I am from the never-give-up attitude.
From the father launching the white ball into the 3rd hole on Friday afternoon, the mother complaining about the drive along the narrow, dangerous road in Maui, the sister who knows the right thing to do, and the brother that took the first leap into the dark blue ocean from the rocky cliff above.
I am from the pale yellow home and a Bennington.
From nights by the fire.
