Behind the Curtain
Draw the curtain and darkness envelops the scene,
Lovers lurking in the shadows looking to find themselves in each other.
Time goes on until
God’s spotlight shines upon them.
Off they go as strangers until
Tomorrow when the curtain is drawn again.
Is love true if it is only acted on when it seems no one is watching?
Never professed to family or friends,
Never solidified by God in his house,
It is unclear which is the real show.
Love in the shadows or indifference on stage?
Only one thing can be known for sure.
These strangers embrace in the darkness
As they have known each other their entire lives.

This piece is basically about the difference between love and lust. Specifically it shows that there is a really fine line between the two sometimes. I ask whether or not love is true if it is always kept in secret because I think that that's a very controversial question. It's a matter of opinion and I felt like it was something I could incorporate well in a short poem and get people thinking about what really defines love.
