Where Im From
I’m from waking up on July 3rd, packed, asking Dad, “Can we go? Can we go?”
From getting to the campground, swim trunks on, ready for the pool.
I'm from hooking the camper up to the truck, getting ready to leave, feeling like crying.
I'm from the terror of Labor Day knowing tomorrow starts the new year.
From watching movies, from dusk till dawn
I'm from realizing summer’s over.
I'm from mom telling me “Nolan, your papa passed away…”
From looking at pictures of Papa with Mom and Dad all day long.
I'm from trying my best to comfort Mom and Dad, but I was young, so I didn't understand.
I'm from the five year anniversary since Papa's passing.
From having the family over, tears shed…
But we talked about Papa. On Christmas, I got a drum set, Papa attached to that drum set, he played it and we laughed.
I'm from my life memories…
From each one shaping me into the powerful, intelligent and patient young man I am today
I'm from each making me stronger, better man.
