why, God, we’re falling!
and yes, it is… a spectacular sight…
full of bright lights and bold colors
and the sounds of the past… but also the future…
and it’s quite amazing how the world can look so still
when everything is crashing down around us…
but God, we’re falling! and someday we have to land.

I used to look out my window
when we drove down endless roads
but lately my rolling hills of daydreams have gotten a little less hopeful
the scene is littered with corpses and I can't help but think
why are we entitled to life when theirs is constantly endangered?

I used to look up at the sky when I was lonely
the possibilities of life seemed to go on forever
and when you thought of how big the sky was
anything was possible
but lately the sky has been cloudy
the beautiful colors we used to see
replaced with smog and toxins
and I can't help but think
what caused us to turn against our home?

I used to go to the ocean
when you're out there
alone with the smell of saltwater
and it's just your thoughts
they finally have room to grow
and light up your mind
but lately the sea has been littered
with waste and crime and the lack of love
and I can't help but think
who could throw away something so pure?

the absence of humanity is visible but often goes unnoticed
perhaps intentionally because ignorance is bliss, isn't it?
people speak about global warming
but when you put it like that, doesn't it sound like the world is to blame?
when in reality it is no fault but ours
and no responsibility but ours

I wrote this piece not to cause disparity for our world, but to open our eyes to the path we have chosen.  Read with caution, for you cannot unsee reality.
