Where I’m From
I’m from the first of three,
With two brothers to look over and protect.
A place where trees in the backyard shade our privacy from neighbors.
I’m from bus rides to school with my two best friends.
One met in Miss. Carrion’s class,
Soon changed to Mrs. Dettmer after she got married,
And the other as she moved in two houses down.
I’m from our first encounter,
Where my family gave a welcoming gift and we washed your van.
I’m from sledding across the street with neighbors,
And waiting in front of the TV for a snow day announcement.
I’m from early morning Christmases
With mom’s annual casserole that only I dislike.
I’m from constant singing and piano playing,
And attending my brother’s sports games.
I’m from my dad blasting music through the house,
Especially Bob Marley,
As well as 10 hour car rides to Hilton Head Island every summer.
I’m from the first to get ready for college,
First one my parents are preparing.
I’m from the role model to my younger brothers,
While also learning for myself.
I’m from the first of three.
