Where I'm From
I’m from the horrors of being the younger sibling
The insults, brutality, and rudeness I’ve had to face from the sibling
In a family of an older sister, my mother and father
I have never experienced death in my family, which is rare
Living in the same house all my life in Northern Virginia
Same live everyday I’ve lived
Never had to cope with change
Same house,
Same community,
Same life.
Everyday living in hopes of more in life
My home is my whole life
Being in my room is my security
The comfort of being by myself in my bed surrounded by my childhood
The artwork, posters, and memories on the bright, green walls
Practicing my beautiful bass clarinet in my chamber is what brings me joy
Playing every note as the music rolls off my fingers
My mind is in a different place when I blow air through the wood of my mouthpiece.
