Where I'm From
I’m from the space between sisters young and old,
From expectations set by those above me.
I’m from rivers of mud flowing through my backyard,
Watching my new home be built.
I’m from sitting in school in silence, because of the overwhelming shyness inside of me.
I’m from knowing no one outside of my neighborhood and school,
Oblivious of the rest of the world.
I’m from walking to the bus stop and meeting my two best friends,
Leading to bus rides, crammed with the three of us in one seat.
I’m from waking up early in summers,
To ride my bike to swim practice with my sisters.
I’m from not wanting summer to end,
But also wanting winter to come faster.
I’m from snowboarding down the hill in my backyard,
Killing the grass and crashing into fences.
I'm from playing with friends every day,
to now spending endless nights doing homework.
I'm from a life of enjoyment, now changed to a life of stress and anxiety.
