Where Im from
I come from a women who has a caramel complexion
And from a man whose skin is as white as day
I guess you could say my father is day and my mother is night
I’m from parents that were young and got married
They didn’t love each other but they thought that was best for me at the time
I’m from a small house in a small city
And rode in a car but not any car, a 1979 Pontiac Firebird that was the color of penny that should have been cherry red
I’m from an aunt who would watch me and feed me junk food until she passed away
I’m from my mother who never went to college but is about to be promoted and become a general manager of a Marriott property
I’m from my father who got in trouble with the law but managed to go to college and get a government clearance
I’m from a single mother who had no job and 3 kids but still managed to do everything for us and I just made my mother’s life more stressful
I’m from my mother who built a life out of nothing
The life my mother is building is not yet complete but it’s hard to get anything done with 3 kids and only a high school diploma
I have my parent’s good traits but I also have their bad traits
I’m from a family with goals and I will complete their goals
