Where I'm From

I’m from expectations that will never be met,
Goals set too high to attempt to succeed.
I’m from the largest Family on the street,
I follow two and lead three.
I’m from a city I have yet to visit since I was a baby,
Atlanta being nearly 11 hours away.
I’m from having a younger sibling before I was 14 months old,
One more to follow soon after.
I’m from a military home,
My dad coming from the Navy.
I’m from the old cut up slide in our backyard,
Causing me to receive broken elbow surgery by the age of four.
I’m from a family of competitive little toddlers,
Playing football in the side yard with the sisters included.
I’m from constant bickering,
Having an argument with my sister Jackie every day until I was 11.
I from a family of football fanatics,
Every boy was encouraged to play.
I’m from a family that manages to stick together,
Despite the constant fights.
From a childhood of following my brothers’ footsteps,
Learning from their mistakes while creating some new ones.
I’m from having a crush on a family friend likely to play college soccer,
Never having the courage to tell her I liked her although knowing she had a crush on me.
I’m from finally building up the confidence to finally tell her,
Still not a likely relationship being long distance.
I’m from people always telling me long distance relationships never work,
Not knowing that I have been with her for two years know.
I’m from the struggle of not knowing where we’ll end up,
Most likely playing at universities 20 hours apart.
I’m from learning that I can’t control my fate,
But to just try to enjoy the ride.
