Growing Up
The days when goo goo ga ga were the only words I knew, were the easy ones.
The days when my mom would pack my lunch is a little princess lunch box, were the easy ones.
The days when it didn't matter what you wore or who you were friends with, were definitely the easy ones.
Then the first day of middle school came…
Now what?
Looking around to see the judgement in people's eyes every day, the days were starting to not be as easy anymore.
Suddenly all that mattered was how other people saw me, not how I saw myself.
From five minutes of getting ready time to an hour of getting ready time.
From playing barbies with friends on the weekends, to spending all my time studying and doing homework.
I begin to wonder… Why did I ever want to grow up?
The days get harder and harder with the introduction of high school,
two hours to get ready in the morning for people that I want to impress.
I begin to wonder… Why do I even want to Impress these people? What have they ever done for me?
I see my family less and less,
I stop looking at my grades because I tell myself that there is so many other things I’d rather be doing than studying.
I begin to spend my time at parties instead of at home.
The once innocent girl whose mom would pack her lunch every day, is now a not so innocent girl, getting drunk in the weekend to impress people she doesn't even know.
I ask myself again… Why did I ever want to grow up?
I soon realize that this question is one I will never be able to answer.
