Apart From Us
Each time we talk
I feel the connection breaking,
like a rotting tree in a storm.
I forget why we are so similar
and remember only why you left.
It wasn’t the life you wanted,
but was this what you wanted?
Did you want to lose us?
We are paired in blood, but nothing more.
Each day away I feel less and less
like I am not human anymore.
This isn’t how it’s supposed to be.
Though, each day I miss you like a
dog misses its ball.
Please, don’t lose the connection to yourself too.
Don’t forget who you were and are.
You still matter as do I,
but your new life is your path not mine.
I won’t walk it with you but I will cross it,
for the rest of my life.
