Where were you when my brother was half dead outside?
I anxiously wait for him to come home
partially dozed off on the reddish leather sofa
up until I hear a knock on the door,
Confused and scared as to who is here at 1am
I peek through the window.
I swing the door open and shake him
“Danny Danny!”
His half naked body lay nearly dead.
“Mom Dad!” I scream
“Help!”
My mom comes as she fumbles over her blanket
still half asleep.
“Mom call 911 Danny isn’t breathing he doesn’t have a pulse”
I scream my voice shaky as I sob.
Never did I think I would have to use CPR
Let alone use it on my brother.
My heart beat fast unlike his
with every compression I felt
like i broke him
more and
more
and
more.
After I wait what felt like a whole catholic wedding ceremony
The ambulance came their lights flash
And their sirens blare
A swarm of EMTs crowd around my frail brother.
All I could think of was who would do this?
Who could drop his body, knock on the door, and run?
I can never know who did this
but I now know at least my brother will be okay.
