The Rebound
did you tell her
she looked beautiful that night?
would you dare
to say the same to me?
without the liquor
or the haze of smoke
to cloud your mind,
would you tell me you're in love?
do you feel the way you felt
with her
when your heart was strong
and full of trust?
could I ever live up to that?
because never in my wildest dreams
could I imagine someone like you
choosing someone like me.
I hope you told her
she was beautiful that night.
it would have been the truth.
I hope you don't expect me
to look that way,
because I probably never will,
but if you tell me I'm beautiful
even once, or twice,
or every day for the rest of my life
then maybe, just maybe, one of those days
I will believe you
but there will always be a part of me
that wonders if I'm nothing more
than the rebound.
