Lake Superior
Summertime
The world comes out to play on its beach
Children building sand castles
And scampering in and out of the water.
Wide, toothy smiles light up their faces
And crinkle their noses and glowing eyes
The sun shines down on the pristine water
The gentle waves flow with the wind
Creating a quiet white noise,
A calm whoosh as the waves crash onto the shore
The jewel-blue reflection of the water
Shimmers and shines from the beating sun
As if tiny specks of glitter
Were spilled into it by a child
The smell of sunscreen:
Potent, tropical,
Like a walk through a rainforest
Hot, steamy, and absolutely alive,
Serves as nothing but a reminder
Of the sweet, simple joys of summer
On the shores of Lake Superior
