Love is Shady
Love may be in the air, but you leave me breathless
And the butterflies are addictive, I require a lethal dose
Love for me, at least, is my poisonous antidote.
The ocean is dark and treacherous
Go through hell and back, pray the ships that sail stay afloat
And the cupid that follows you may be a drug dealer
It may seem rough, but your money is a painkiller.

I wrote about this from more of an 'outsider's' perspective on love, however I have had experience on it a little in the past, enough to know how intense the emotion can really be. I was inspired to write this short piece from the horror stories my friends talk about when it comes to falling in love with somebody. I also tried to give this piece a 'grimy' appearance, for I include filthy and shady keywords such as 'drug dealer', 'poisonous', 'painkiller', and 'hell'.
I kind of hope what people see from this poem, is that love is more of a spiritual connection rather that a material bond. When someone gets their heart broken or if their experience with love is tarnished, it gives them a sense that what they're capable of feeling is wrong and unrealistic, forcing them to crave the things that are real and materialistic.
