The Sun and I
One day the sun began to slide down before my eyes.
I opened my mouth in protest, begging it to stay.
But my “Oh”, quickly turned to a calmed and gentle, “Ah”.
I watched in awe as it changed colors before my eyes.
“Where on Earth did you learn to do that?” I asked, appalled.
“On the contrary, I did not learn to do this on Earth at all. And besides, I taught myself.”
She responded, waving an orange hand at me.
“Sun, why did you decide to learn that?” I begged curiously, waiting for her answer.
“I learned this, so I could say goodbye.” She answered simply.
And a pink tear rolled down her side.
“Oh, Sun! But where will you go?” I plead and begin to cry with her.
“My dear friend, I am giving you this present of beauty so I my go to sleep tonight.”
The Sun explains while reaching out with a wispy purple handkerchief.
I dab my eyes gingerly and glance up smiling slightly now.
“You know what Sun? I am so glad that I am able to finally look at you.” I tell her.
“Yes, I have been out for very long, and I like for people to see me before I go.” She states.
“And I hate to say goodbye, darling friend, but I wish you could tell me goodbye always.”
“That is quite rude.” She says.
“Well, I only meant that I love to look at you when you’re like this,
For I can usually not see you at your fullest.
It hurts when you try to be your fullest and brightest.”
I explained in conclusion.
“Oh that is very kind of you. I am happy to have such a beautiful goodbye as well.”
My Sun told me.
I enveloped my Sun in my arms to hold her glory at last.
And at that all of her colors spilled and mixed at once.
Sherbet and Cotton Candy Sky.
Apricot and Orange Crush.
They float under my head like a pillow.
Then at last Mystic Blue and Moon Burst settle atop me as if a blanket would on a baby.
A whisper hangs by my ear. “Until tomorrow, my friend.”
And with that all I can hear is the silence of nothingness.
And my eyes drift closed in anticipation of seeing her beauty as it rises up
All over again in the morning.
