Titled "Snap"
It usually happens late at night.
When you're sitting in bed,
Scrolling through tumblr or
Flipping through a book.
You realize that there's something there.
Except it isn't.
You hear it.
Except you don't.
You turn a page
And it disappears.
Your cat yawns
And it creeps away,
Just out of reach.
Complete and utter silence
Makes a noise.
It buzzes in your ears,
It whispers
And giggles
And taunts
But never gets close enough to touch.
It tickles you and
Dances around you and
Sticks its tongue out
Until you want to scream at it...
But it would only tiptoe away,
Laughing unhearable laughs and
Cackling unhearable cackles.
But finally,
Once you've had enough of
Trying not to listen to it,
Only to get more of an earful,
You sit up.
And snap your fingers.

I was sitting by myself late at night when I realized I could hear nothing, but "nothing" sounded whole lot like something. It freaked me out to the point where I was coughing and rustling around just to get rid of it.
