In the old days
I might wake up at dawn
when the sun is barely rising
and go downstairs
to watch some cartoons.
I might have made myself
some Frosted Flakes
while sitting on my sofa
that is soft as a cloud
staring endlessly into the TV.

When the sun is now bright in the sky
I hear my parents footsteps,
see their feet go up and down,
they smile at me saying good morning.

At night, I would challenge myself not to go to sleep
but eventually fall into a dream,
in the old days I would a have bedtime,
and my mom would read me a book
about a little bird looking for his mother
and I would always help her flip the pages.

At school, we had to be in straight lines
and were given red, yellow or green cards.
In the old days
we wanted our moms to come to lunch and eat with us.
