Don’t judge me by the length of my hair,
Or the width of my hips.
Don’t judge me by the shade of my skin,
Or the fullness of my lips.
Does it matter if my stomachs pokes out?
Or should I be as thin as a toothpick?
You want me to walk with my head down?
Does my confidence make you sick?
I laugh because it’s funny.
I won’t feed into your ignorance.

I’m a proud black young lady,
I’ll yell it out with no shame.
I can’t be hurt by your words.
I won’t give you the benefit of seeing me in pain.
You won’t discredit my achievements.
Or get in the way of what I have yet to gain.
I have goals and dreams too
That aren’t predetermined by my shade.
Whether light-skin, dark-skin, brown-skin or white,
Anything I desire and put my mind to I can attain.

Or is not my appearance but my sex?
Is it because I’m a female that you belittle me?
It’s what’s in my head. Not in between my legs,
That’ll get me where I want to be.
I have so much potential,
But you’re too blind to see.
Don’t think I’m discouraged by the opposite sex.
I refuse to let a man phase me.
With pride and my head held high,
A woman is what I’ll be.

Light-skin or Dark-skin.
White, Asian, or Mexican.
Christian, Muslim, Jewish.
Woman or a man.
Blue eyes or brown eyes.
Blonde, black, or blue hair.
Everybody is different,
But everybody has a chance.
If I want to be something I will!
And If I can, anyone can.

This piece is just to remind people that everyone is different but that shouldnt take away from their potential. A person's potential should not be predetermined by apperance, sex, or religion. Everyone should be taken for who they are which requires youto know a person before you judge them.
