Only Temporary

As the wind hits your face, you smell the autumn leaves and pumpkin seeds.
All colors of red, orange, and yellow everywhere as if they were painted on every tree.
You walk down the sidewalk taking it all in with a deep breath hearing, “Crunch, Crunch, Crunch,” every time you take another step.
This is the best time of year.
It goes from skulls to pumpkins, and candy to turkey.
Families rejoice each other as they praise God for this gift called life.
Horror films pile up in your room as Halloween passes.
And the skulls disappear, leaving the pumpkins and leaves behind.
The movie piles are gone once again, leaving you bored and alone.
"What a perfect time of year".
But, is it?
As the loneliness sets in with the evening breeze, you're exhaling your last hit of a cigarette and look up at the sunset sky;
Seeing the dark purples, with the yellows and oranges. You sit and watch them slowly disappear. Leaving you in the darkness of the fall nights.
"This is only temporary," you say.
"You just have to make it through winter."
