I Threw it all Away
I threw it all away
all the riches and fame
The glory, people screaming my name
I threw it all away
The clothes and the makeup
The gossip
I threw it all away
partied all night long
smoked a few
drank a few
well, maybe a little more than a few.
I threw it all away
lost myself
in liquid spirits
and the smoke of my bad decisions.
I threw it all away
my good image,
my hopes, my dreams
my life
I threw it all away
I sold myself
for an unknown world
everyone says not to get into.
I threw it all away
my life
my joy
my everything
I threw it all away
my family
my friends
my loves
I threw myself away
I disposed of myself
let it all go
In the hands of a single knife
I slit myself open
and bleed out
all the trash
that was rotting inside of me
Now there is nothing to be thrown away.

I started writing this last year from a simple prompt. I returned to it this year looking for something to enter in this contest. I don't know why but something about its darkness made me wonder why I chose to write it that way and I decided to finish it. I am one to usually write something realistic but fictional. So this was a big change for me. I like the way it has a hidden meaning about what agencies and music industries turn people into, or what the peer pressure of Hollywood can do to someone. I hope people will feel chills when they read this. I hope it is the kind of poem that people can feel what is going on and feel some kind of strong emotion. Whether it be fear, sorrow, or just somber.
