Who are you ? The painful words I could never forget. Who is this ? Do I know you ? These words broke my heart. A close friend, now a stranger. Within the blink of an eye, the life he Knew, was gone. A well rounded human being. An amazing friend. I don't know you, he tells me. Should I ? You should. My voice cracks. Body shaking fiercely. Fear, confusion, agony consumed me. This has to be a joke. You must be bluffing. No... The person you were, the things you've accomplished. All for not. I'm so sorry. Within mere seconds, you're gone. No, not dead, but worse, much worse. The person you were has died inside. You're gone, starting over. One wrong step, one stumble. Gone. You were an amazing friend. An amazing person. I'll l miss who you used to be. Goodbye, he tells me. Goodbye...

This piece was inspired by the injury of a close friend. For a couple days, he had forgotten who I was. He made a full recovery, but this piece is a look at what it would've been like if his memory was permanently damaged.
