you should listen when they say to stay away from broken things
i always was fond of storms
(i loved the universe best
when it was screaming, i suppose)
so it only makes sense i fell in love
with an earthquake shaped like a girl.
she was beautiful in the way
that plucked trees from the ground like daisies
and shaped mountains
to her liking, beautiful in the way that scarred
as much as it healed.
(i dont think she noticed- she never seemed to care much
about such things, anyway). but she
snapped towers
under her toes like twigs, and i
was never brave enough to
leave footprints when i walked, and
even when i salvaged the beauty
out of all her broken pieces, she never
stopped running long enough
for me to hold her hand.
(i dont think she noticed- she never seemed to care much
about me, anyway).
