An Apology
I came home to silence,
everyone sound asleep
except for the sweet
little dog at my feet.
He looked maybe too happy
and in a moment of doubt,
I wondered if anyone
had taken him out.
Ignoring my instincts
I turned off the light,
granting goodbye kisses
to the dog for the night.
The morning came fast,
to my despair;
I woke up feeling
the burn of your stare.
Once the stench of dookie
wafted towards my face,
I knew what I’d done,
and I knew it was too late.
I still have a lot
of explaining to do,
but I’m sorry, Mom
for not letting
the dog out to poo.
