Selma
On a road On a bridge
Lies a pair of glasses
Glasses belonging to a small boy
A small boy who has seen too much
The swarm of black bodies trying to get free pounding against him
Like wind to a leaf
Freeing his glasses from his crying face
But not fast enough
Not in time to unsee
Their hands rippling, striking
The sweet scented dark skin of his mother
Not in time to unsee
Their barbed claws shred her dark flesh
Like paper
Crying red Crying empty screams
Not in time to unsee
The light take her dark body
As her skull is shattered with one last clash
Lifting with her the many other black, blood stained lives
With the white noise screaming back
“Not human, Unhuman, Inhuman”
His eyes lay one last time on the blurred white ‘human’ figures
As they set fire to the countless, faultless memoirs
On a road On a bridge
Lies a pair of glasses
Next to the glasses lies a small frozen boy
His blood spilling out with his thoughts
I’d rather be unhuman

I was inspired by the movie Selma about the march from Selma to Montgomery. The movie sent tears down my face the entire time. I was horrified at how people could hurt other people based solely on the color of their skin. I couldn't understand why some people called African Americans not human, when they were the ones killing African Americans in inhumane ways. So, I had to write a poem about it.
