She was on her way home
When she got the call from her mom telling her about the bad news.
She got home as fast as she could. She got home and threw her keys and sat on the couch.
She just sat there, with terrifying thoughts running through her head.
All she could think was the worst.
She tried to think positively but she just couldn't.
Her mother had cancer and the only thing she could do is fight.
Fight for her life, fight for her and fight for herself.
In the middle of all her thoughts, she hears the front door open.
Her mom comes towards her with tearful eyes that are filled with fear.
She looks at her mom and sees the terror in her eyes,
As her own eyes reflect that same emotion.
She lets the tears stream down her face as she looks at her beloved mother.
Her mother wraps her arms around her and tells her that,
Everything will be okay.
After all of the sulking, they began distracting themselves with TV.
They get 2 pints of ice cream and dig in.
Her mom decides to watch Parks and Recreation
Because her daughter kept telling her to watch it.
They laugh hysterically at all the insanity that was happening within the show.
Little by little, they distance themselves from the bad news.
As it gets late, her mother slowly starts to fall asleep on the couch.
In the early morning, her mom gets up from the couch to go to her bed.
But as she is walking back, she realizes that her armoire is wide open.
She goes towards the armoire and is astonished by what she sees,
A little green cube with a bow on top.
It reads,"To my inspiring mother".
She decides to open the box carefully.
In the box, she sees a small token.
She reaches within the box and grabs the token.
She holds it up and reads it aloud,
It says "You can get through this, you can fight this."
Tearfully looking at the token, she sees the importance of hope.
Now, she is ready to face this sickness head on.
