peat bogs
deprived of oxygen
floating in a world thick with moisture
remnants of the past are preserved
but when removed
exposed to the elements
like a baby from the womb
it is imperative that change will occur
flesh peels away
hair cracks off
a foul scent assaults nostrils
that were never there to smell it before
deprived of competition
floating in a world of love so blissful
our relationship was preserved
but when transplanted
to a new location
like a tree to new soil
things just don’t grow the same
distance recoils
the once clasped hands
and unveils the underlying problems
once preserved
