Rushing white water
cascades off of a rocky cliff
and plummets down to the bottom
where it meets a pool

It is simplicity
in its most beautiful form

I stick my hand out
and into the falls
a hole appears
like a gateway to another world

The freshly-sprayed rock
looks almost glassy
with small droplets of water
covering it
like stars in the sky

There is something about waterfalls
that makes me want to sit down
and just watch
for a while

You may call it beauty,
which is entirely true

I don't know if anything could be more beautiful

The river frees itself
from its accustomed path
and leaps off the edge of the cliff
as if hoping to fly away
and start its own journey
not along the river banks
but on a path not set in stone

On a path all its own

You may call it peaceful
but it is a peaceful chatter
a noisy,
yet tranquil
conversation from one to the other

The waterfal screams and cries
as it falls into the pool
it rumbles and shakes
desperate to change its fate

Once it can no longer fight
it crashes
and splashes into the pool
then ends its voyage
in small delicate ripples
that travel outward
in wavy rings of memories

The pool whispers its welcome
and slowly calms down the tempest
that the waterfall had caused
until nothing but a breeze can be heard
and the subtle greeting
of water climbing up onto the banks

There is something about waterfalls
that makes me want to sit down
and just watch
for a while
