Blink

Blink.
Look at what you see
Now tell me
What do you see?

Blink again?
Do you see just a lot of stars?
Or a painting that covers the night sky?
Think a minute.

Close your eyes.
I see thousands of stars that cover the night sky.
What do you see?

Open your eyes.
Now look at me
Not the sky
Your eyes are beautiful
More beautiful than the stars that paint the sky

Your mom picked you up from school today
To say goodbye
Her mom is dying
She is crying.

It’s okay to cry.
Don’t forget that.
Blink.

She’s gone.
But you’ll see her again.
Blink.

Quick open your eyes you don’t want to miss anything.
Look a shooting star
Fleeting across the sky
It is beautiful.

You are beautiful.
Blink

Today is your wedding day.
You wear white
Your hair pulled back tight.
Blink.

Where are you now?
Look at all of the trees that surround you
The soft brown earth beneath you
Blink

Your baby graduated from high school today
He says he will always love you
You blinked.
Where did the time go?

Now you are in the city
Look down at your feet, the gray sidewalk

You blinked

And now you’re here
Where did time go?

Your sister died today.
You are the last one left.
Blink.

Where did all the time go?
Look up at the night sky like you did when you were young.
Remember.

Blink
White walls
One TV, no remote control, no memory of how to use it

Any visitors?
You can’t remember.
You blinked.

Was your life beautiful?
You hope
Did you do what you want?
You pray

Blink
